Made for kids, Disney Fairies Fly! is a short, but fun flying game for your young ones that are digging the new Tinkerbell movie and Disney's new line of fairy toys.
The game is very simple: fly the fairy of your choosing through 15 levels spanning over 5 different seasonally themed areas like Spring Valley, Summer Glade, Beach Cove, Autumn Forest and Winter Woods. You choose between five different fairies -- Fawn, Silvermist, Iridessa, Rosetta and of course, Tinkerbell herself. There's a sixth fairy, Vidia, who is the fastest to the fairies, but she's only playable after you've beaten the game. I chose to play Rosetta through most levels, because she was the prettiest of the fairies.
Wait, is a grown man supposed to admit to that?
Beating the game won't take very long if you're over 10. Fly through each short stage, avoiding bats, bees, birds and other obstacles while collecting fairy dust and point icons. Glowing health icons replenish energy lost in collisions. You control your fairy using the accelerometer. I found the controls to tighter than I expected, and only occasionally did my fairy floating up or down too much, causing me to overcompensate. A boost icon is available in the lower right corner of the screen to help you get out of tight spots.
Kids will find the game fun but likely not very challenging. However, kids can challenge each other to see who can get the best score on each level. The game needs a few more unlockables, like secret levels or more fairies to compensate for its brevity.
The graphics are fantastic. Everything is well animated, bright and colorful. The sound effects are good, and the music is supposedly straight out of the Tinkerbell movie. A really nice clip introduces the game, but there is no end movie clip when you beat it, which is a shame.
